My Bio
I am a science geek + artist, which means that I have a deep curiosity for how things work, and I've never met an artistic medium that I didn't love. My artistic and crafty endeavors include drawing, painting, photographing, sculpting, sewing, needle felting, knitting, weaving, writing, imagining, and generally creating.

I found a bunch of my older sketches, and decided to add them... I am also thinking of adding some of my photographs, as well. while I am focusing on improving my charcoal portraits lately, I would like to show that I am a very multi-media artist. I enjoy drawing in many different styles, watercolour painting, acrylic painting, photography, sculpting with clay, textile arts such as sewing, needle felting, knitting, and spinning. I've recently started upping the impact on my images by using charcoal almost exclusively. With the exception of the rough layout lines and some of the iris details and eyelashes (done with a mechanical pencil - graphite/HB), I have switched to using a range of charcoal pencils. I have also realized that high contrast reference images make for the best charcoal drawings, so I am no longer drawing from colour reference photos.

So I've been working to improve my drawing skills, but I feel like it is slow going. I've been reading J.D. Hillberry's "Drawing Realistic Textures in Pencil", which has given some good suggestions on technique, and I got a bunch of new tools. A set of charcoal pencils in HB - 2B hardness, a carbon sketch pencil, a hard, and a dark charcoal pencil, a Staedtler eraser, and a BLACK 18 charcoal eraser, AND some workable spray fixative to keep my artwork from smudging. It has been fun playing with my new tools :-) I also got the scanner up and running, so I have scanned some older pieces, some previously submitted, and some new ones. Hope you l
